Im looking to put some pictures up with picture hooks but a little nervous Ill put a nail through a pipe?

Is there anything I can buy to make sure Im not going to hit a pipe its quite a new building if this helps?Im looking to put some pictures up with picture hooks but a little nervous Ill put a nail through a pipe?
pipes arent normally positioned in the kinds of places where you would want o hang a picture i.e. at eye level in the middle of your wall.

electric wires normally run straight up from and straight down from a switch (rather than across) so as long as you dont start hammering nails in above/below you should be pretty safe.Im looking to put some pictures up with picture hooks but a little nervous Ill put a nail through a pipe?
It's extremely unlikely unless you're using the biggest picture hooks ever made, and put them in wrong, and there are pipes in unusual places. It's very difficult to put a nail through a pipe anyway; you would probably have given up in frustration before the nail actually punctured anything. If you're really worried, there's a device called a stud-finder which will help you locate solid places in the walls, some models are supposed to be able to tell you if what's behind your wall is metal or wood. Wood is what you want for a solid place to put a picture hook, though some buildings have metal studs, or you can use things made to hang things on the hollow part of the wall. Any building supply or hardware place can sell you what you need and tell you exactly how to use them.
Millions do this every year without problems! My brother in law is a decorator and he had finished a job in an old ladies house last year and she asked him to put a picture hook up for her, and she marked the spot she wanted it. Yep, straight into a pipe. The sweet old lady turned out to be not so sweet!

You can buy a Pipe and Cable detector in most big DIY stores but in my personal experience i have not found the cheap DIY ones much good. Why not use the new adhesive hooks, the 3M ones are very efficient and they give a suggested maximum weight limit on the different packs.
Why not try those command adhesive strips. It is what I use th hang stuff all the time.

Their site has a video to demo how they work and they don't damage the walls.
you can buy a gadget from argus you put it against the wall and it will show where water and gas pipes are also joists and electrical wiring,i think we only paid 拢9.99 for it too.
As long as your using picture hook nails you are not going to hit a pipe in the wall. The pipes are about 4-5 inches in the wall so if your not using a spike you will be just fine.
Better than hitting the electric cable. Trust me. Still shivering. Should never have hung that mirror on the skirting board, but the mice insisted.
knock on the wall until you find a stud , a duull noise compared to wallboard which will be hollow sounding
