Is it at all possible to trim cats nails with human nail clippers? im afraid of what i hear about it.?

lots of professionals in the animal care world use human nail clippers. they clip sideways (along the side of the nail instead of across the top and bottom) to keep the nail from splintering as much.

I invested in some nail clippers for pets that look like scissors because I feel they give me better control and I can see if I am close to the quick or not. I much prefer them, but I'll use my own clippers if I'm in a pinchIs it at all possible to trim cats nails with human nail clippers? im afraid of what i hear about it.?
In a pinch, I've used toenail clippers on my kitty's claws (sideways). But like Connie, I much prefer the scissor-type clippers. I got mine at Walmart for less than $5.

If you're thinking about the Peticure commercials, they always make it look harder than it is so their product looks like it's that much better. I'm sure it's great, but I've already got a method that works just fine.

Same rules apply, be careful not to cut to the quick, and it should be painless. Is it at all possible to trim cats nails with human nail clippers? im afraid of what i hear about it.?
I use human clippers on kittens up to about 4-5 months old when their nails are big enough for regular scissor cat clippers.

I also use them in a pinch if I'm at a friend's house who claims they can't cut nails...I just grab the cat, on my lap and nails are cut within 5 mins at the most :)
I wouldn't suggest it! If you can buy the cat nail clippers at the store. They are in the correct shape and make it easier for you and the cat, you don't want to hurt the cat. The clippers are relatively inexpensive.

Good Luck!
What do you hear about it? I always use human nail clippers on my cats and I've never had a problem. I wouldn't suggest using the same clippers on the cat that you use on yourself, but other than that I can't see a problem.
Because cat's nails are shaped differently than ours I really think a special pet clippers would be best. They're not that expensive and can be purchased at any pet store, Wal-Mart,or any other store that carries pet supplies.
I've never had to trim my kitty's nails. They are good at taking care of it themselves. If they are indoor cats, do you have a place they can scratch?
